Safer Local Roads and Streets Program works begin
Pedestrians and motorists will soon benefit from two road safety improvement projects occurring in Kerang.
Work started today on two projects thanks to the Victorian Government though the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which is providing $210 million across Victoria to improve the safety of local roads.
As part of the program:
Speed reduction measures will be placed along Wyndham Street, Kerang, either side of Victoria Street; and
The school crossing at Boundary Street, Kerang, near Mitchell Street will be replaced with a raised priority crossing to improve pedestrian safety and increase visibility.
"Council thanks the Transport Accident Commission and Department of Transport and Planning for providing funding via its Safer Local Roads and Streets Program to improve the safety of Council-managed roads in the municipality," Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
"These two projects would not have been possible without significant financial planning or additional support from our State or Federal counterparts."
As part of Boundary Street, Kerang school crossing improvements, the crossing will be closed to all traffic from tomorrow, 24 March to Thursday, 2 April, as well as between Tuesday, 7 April and Thursday, 9 April.
Motorists are advised to use Bendigo Road or the Murray Valley Highway if travelling between Airport Road and Wellington Street, or Croton Street, Dunlop Street, Lyall Avenue, Marne Street or Mitchell Street if accessing local roads.
Meanwhile, reduced speed limits and traffic management controls will be in place at the intersection of Victoria and Wyndham streets from today to Friday, 17 April as part of the improvements.
"Council thanks motorists and pedestrians for their understanding as these improvements occur," Mr Rollinson said.
The Safe Local Roads and Streets Program will also support the following projects, with details regarding start dates and changed traffic conditions to be announced closer to when these works begin:
Improvements to the intersection of Cohuna Island and Tennis roads, Cohuna, including the installation of raised pedestrian crossings either side of Apex Park.
The installation of a roundabout and speed reduction measures at the intersection of Channel and Market streets, Cohuna.
The placement of a roundabout, raised pedestrian crossings and speed reduction measures at the intersection of Maxwell, Shadforth and Wyndham streets, Kerang.
