About The Mallee

Every community deserves to know what its government is doing, in language it can actually understand.

What we do

The Mallee is an automated regional news aggregator covering north-west Victoria. We monitor public records, government websites, and official notices from five councils and dozens of government agencies — then publish them here in one searchable place, with plain-language context where it helps.

The Mallee covers the communities of Mildura, Swan Hill, Kerang, Ouyen, Robinvale, Sea Lake, Warracknabeal, and the surrounding towns across five local government areas.

We are not a newsroom. We do not editorialise or add opinion. Every article links back to its original source so you can read the full context and verify everything yourself.

How it works

1
Scrapers run on a schedule

Automated scripts monitor government websites, court lists, road closure feeds, and council portals for new content.

2
Content is processed and stored

Articles are parsed, tagged by category and location, and written as structured JSON files.

3
Site rebuilds with new content

A static site is generated and deployed, making all content searchable and accessible without requiring a live database.
