Robinvale CBD revitalisation

Plans to revitalise Robinvale's town centre are moving forward, with Swan Hill Rural City Council and the Robinvale Euston Business Association (REBA) partnering to deliver upgrades that will create a more welcoming, culturally representative and functional CBD.

Supported by a $250,000 grant from the Victorian Government's Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program and a further $100,000 contribution from Council, the project will refresh Perrin Street and Caix Square - the heart of Robinvale's commercial and community life.

Robinvale is home to more than 40 distinct cultures and 20 languages. The revitalisation will embed culturally representative design throughout the precinct, ensuring the physical environment reflects the diverse Italian, Pacific Islander, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities that contribute to the town's economy and identity.

Key project elements include:

Streetscape improvements - new street furniture and landscaping to make the CBD more comfortable and inviting

Cultural placemaking - vibrant decals, murals and street banner flags celebrating Robinvale's heritage

Safety and functionality upgrades - practical infrastructure improvements to support daily activity and enable events in Caix Square

Mayor Cr Stuart King said the project was shaped by local aspirations.

"This project reflects the aspirations of the Robinvale community. By upgrading Perrin Street, and particularly Caix Square, we are creating a more functional, safe and culturally meaningful town centre that strengthens Robinvale's economic and social future, while supporting key community events and activities."

Robinvale-based Councillor Philip Englefield said the investment recognised the importance of the precinct to residents and traders.

"Robinvale's CBD is the centre of daily life for our community. These upgrades will celebrate our unique cultural identity while supporting local traders and encouraging more people to spend time in the town centre."

REBA President Julieanne Loy welcomed the partnership approach.

"REBA is very much looking forward to this project and upgrade. These improvements will create a high-quality, welcoming setting for community events that drive increased foot traffic to our local businesses, helping to re-establish the area as a vibrant hub and an integral part of our daily lives."

The project forms part of the Victorian Government's $6 million Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program, which supports councils and business groups to enhance multicultural shopping strips, attract visitors and strengthen local economies.

Multicultural business precincts are vital community hubs where people gather, shop and connect. Across Victoria, more than half of small businesses are owned by people with at least one parent born overseas, highlighting the important role multicultural enterprise plays in local jobs and economic growth.

The exciting upgrades are set to commence later this year
