Bob's career began with the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission, working on channel structures with a pick and shovel. Over time, his passion for water management grew, leading him to oversee the entire Wimmera Mallee water system - the largest rural water supply system in the world at the time.

This new title follows his earlier work,

Pipe Dreams

(2001), which focused on the establishment of the Wimmera Mallee Water system.

Waters of the Wimmera

shifts the lens to the environmental history of the region and aims to serve as a valuable reference for shaping its future.

The book makes a great Christmas gift for local history enthusiasts and is available for purchase online [insert link], at GWMWater's Horsham office and at the Wimmera CMA office.

A celebration to mark the release of the new book was held at GWMWater's Horsham office on Wednesday 17 December, bringing together Bob McIlvena, GWMWater and Wimmera CMA Board members, staff and local media. The event acknowledged Bob's remarkable contribution to documenting the region's water history and his ongoing passion for sharing knowledge.

Bob hopes the book will inspire greater appreciation for the Wimmera's water story and its role in sustaining communities and ecosystems.
