Helping Our Region Stay Water Smart All Year Round

GWMWater is reminding customers across the Grampians, Mallee and Wimmera that Permanent Water Saving Rules are in place every day of the year.

The simple, common sense rules help our communities use water wisely and protect supplies for the future.

Permanent Water Saving Rules apply across Victoria and focus on reducing unnecessary outdoor water use: This includes:

Watering at any time using a trigger nozzle and leak-free hose for all outdoor tasks, including washing your car.

Watering gardens only between 6 pm and 10 am when using sprinklers and drippers.

Using a broom instead of a hose for outdoor cleaning, unless addressing a safety hazard or surface staining. In those cases, a high-pressure device should be used if available.

Ensuring all fountains and water features recirculate the water.

The rules apply to mains supplied water only; not rainwater, bore water, greywater or recycled water.

GWMWater Managing Director Mark Williams said small changes across households and businesses made a difference.

"Every customer who uses water wisely is helping secure our region's future. With changing climate conditions and increasing water demands, Permanent Water Saving Rules give us a practical way to protect the water sources we all rely on," Mr Williams said.

"Our communities have embraced smart water use and together we can continue to support a healthy, thriving region," he said.

He said the rules supported major investments, including the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline, by promoting long term sustainable water use.

Mr Williams also encouraged customers to use GWMWater's Customer Portal, which helps customers monitor water consumption and detect leaks.

"We encourage our customers to sign-up to our portal - whether you live on a rural property or in town. It's an easy way to track your water use and spot any water issues early," he said.
