Location

Mildura

The Liberals and Nationals will deliver passenger trains to the Wimmera and Mallee, reconnecting communities across western and north-western Victoria to the state's passenger rail network.

Under the $51.2 million Wimmera Mallee Rail Plan, passenger services will return to Mildura and Dimboola by mid-2029, giving regional Victorians more choice in how they travel.

The Mildura service will stop at Red Cliffs, Ouyen, Birchip, Donald, St Arnaud and Dunolly, connecting with Melbourne-bound trains at Maryborough.

The Dimboola service will stop at Horsham, Murtoa and Stawell, connecting with Melbourne-bound trains at Ararat.

The plan will deliver three return services a week on each corridor.

The initial $51.2 million investment will fund infrastructure improvements, potential train acquisition and refurbishment, and operating costs over four years.

Leader of the Opposition Jess Wilson said: "Where you live shouldn't determine your access to opportunity. We're reconnecting communities, opening up travel options and making sure regional Victoria isn't left behind."

"Bringing back passenger rail will give people across the Wimmera and Mallee a more affordable way to travel and stay connected to the rest of Victoria."

Shadow Minister for Public Transport Matthew Guy said: "Only the Liberals and Nationals have a plan to deliver a practical and financially responsible return of passenger rail.

"This is a sensible first step that gets services back up and running, with the opportunity to grow them as demand increases."
