Swan Hill Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a man after a car was stolen with a baby inside in Beverford on Wednesday morning. It is understood a motorist was flagged down by the man on the Murray Valley Highway about 11.10am on 9 September. Detectives allege the 36-year-old woman exited her vehicle to assist the man before a struggle ensued and the man stole the Holden Commodore. A seven-month-old baby, who was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, was located by a passerby on the side of the highway a short distance away. The woman, who sustained minor injuries, and her uninjured baby were quickly reunited and transported to hospital. The Holden was later located abandoned in bushland near Pire Road in Nyah. A 51-year-old Swan Hill man was arrested several hours later in relation to the incident. The man was charged with: carjacking child stealing behave in a grossly offensive manner reckless conduct endangering serious injury criminal damage theft of a motor vehicle unlawful assault unlicensed driving commit indictable offence whilst on bail contravene conduct condition of bail The Swan Hill man was remanded by police and appeared at Kerang Magistrates' Court yesterday.
