First meeting of GMW’s Loch Garry Customer Committee

Goulburn-Murray Water's (GMW) Loch Garry Customer Committee has held its first meeting, with future management options of the Loch Garry flood regulator near Bunbartha being discussed.

The customer committee is made up of Loch Garry flood protection customers and was appointed in February 2026.

One of the projects the committee is providing input into is the Loch Garry Future Service Strategy, which will outline GMW's long-term plan for managing the future of the Loch Garry flood protection service.

The regulator provides protection to GMW customers in the Loch Garry Flood Protection District during minor and moderate floods.

It has served the district for over a century but is nearing the end of its expected lifespan within the next 20 years.

GMW General Manager Strategy and Service Planning Steven Abbott said the recent meeting with Loch Garry Customer Committee members discussed key updates about the strategy.

"The committee members were provided an in-depth look at where we're currently at with the strategy and the history behind it," he said.

"The members also provided helpful feedback to us as we finalise the draft Future Service Strategy document."

The recent Loch Garry Customer Committee discussion about the strategy follows extensive community consultation, including engagement with a Community Reference Group, about different future management options for the service.
